High Winds Maul Main Street
The weatherman was on target with his call for strong winds in southeastern Colorado Tuesday, February 28. Winds in excess of 50mph were whipping up the usual tumbleweeds, but some business signs and businesses along Main Street in Lamar didn’t fare very well. What a Windy Weekend
A lot of tumbleweeds got a chance to change their location in southeast Colorado this past Saturday, with wind gusts approaching 60 mph for a portion of the afternoon. As usual, trash cans went rolling down the alleyways, some shingles went sailing from neighborhood roofs, a lot of autumn leaves were stripped from the trees earlier than expected and high school football and a college soccer game was played in less than favorable conditions. Dirty Thirties, Déjà vu
Westerly winds increase on a county road off South 14th Street this past Thursday evening, March 24, blotting out the sun, and eventually obscuring it. Not many southeast Colorado residents are alive who recall the early days of the Dust Bowl era, some 80 years ago.
