June Precipitation Levels for S.E. Colorado
Despite the summer heat, some areas of southeast Colorado continued to receive precipitation in amounts comparable to last year. The overall drought status of southeast Colorado is slightly improved over last year, which is why some counties have not been red-flagged for burn bans from the National Weather Service. S. E. Colorado Employment Update
Employers in Colorado added 19,500 nonfarm payroll jobs from December to January for a total of 2,284,800 jobs, according to the survey of business establishments. Private sector payroll jobs increased 22,500 and government decreased 3,000. According to the survey of households, the unemployment rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.8 percent. CDOT Winter Storm Preparations

National Weather Service Reports A Slight Drop in Drought
An updated Drought Information Statement from the National Weather Service in Pueblo has indicated some improvement in drought conditions as beneficial rain continues to fall across south central and southeast Colorado, as of August 25, 2011. Employers in Colorado added 4,200 nonfarm payroll jobs from April to May for a total of 2,234,300 jobs, according to the survey of establishments. Sage Nutrition on Dollar Diet

Lamar Not Expecting Summer Water Restrictions
Lamar’s water supply is in pretty good shape, considering the on-going dry spell in the region. February 2011 Unemployment Figures for Colorado
The state Labor and Employment Board released the most recent numbers for employment in Colorado. As of February, Colorado had 2,670,939 eligible workers with 259,400 unemployed. That number rose for last month to 263,646 for January and was lower last February at this time with 253,381 for February, 2010. Bridge Repairs Planned for S.E. Colorado
Eight of the 63 bridges most in need of repair are in southeast Colorado. A study authorized by Colorado Bridge Enterprise indicated bridges in Bent, Baca, Otero and Prowers County need help.
