ARPA Motion to Dismiss WildEarth Guardian Lawsuit Denied
Representatives of the Arkansas River Power Authority (ARPA) and the Lamar Utilities Board (LUB) expressed disappointment that their motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the WildEarth Guardians (WEG) in early 2011 was denied. LUB Approves Customer Rate Increase
Lamar Utilities Board members approved a 2.5% rate increase effective November 1, 2011. This will be combined with an Emergency ECA, Electric Cost Adjustment of 1.5 cents per kilowatt hour up to a 12 month period. Testing Continues on Repowering Project Restart
Lamar Light and Power Superintendent Rick Rigel requested bids from two natural gas companies currently doing business with the power company. Lamar Light and Power Replacing Burned Poles
The Lamar Utilities Board meeting on Tuesday, June 28, covered a limited agenda, before moving into executive session for discussions. A dozen power poles were burned during the Ft. Lyon fire this spring, and the board authorized $16,961 to replace the custom-made transmission structures. Bent County Fire Takes Toll on Light Plant Power Poles

Lamar Repowering Project Delays Resumption of Online Operation
Coal-fired operations at Lamar Light and Power may be pushed back until June, according to light plant superintendent, Rick Rigel. Two areas need to be addressed, boiler operation and efficiency within the limits of the air quality permit for emissions. Rigel said the furnace’s air supply systems need improvement to provide sufficient ‘overfire air’ for the operation, which will involve additional ducting and ports for air venting. Lamar Utilities Board Reviews 2010 Budget Revenues
Revenues from the sale of electricity, combined with non-operating revenues accounted for $13.96 million for 2010, about 1.5% above budget, according to Rick Rigel, Lamar Light and Power Superintendent. $13 million came from electric power sales, about 90K megawatt hours, he said, adding that revenues were up 8% from 2009.
