LUB Reviews Financials, Approves Scholarship Renewals
The Lamar Utility Board reported that Year to Date electric sales through May of this year were 4.2% lower than the same time last year. Residential, commercial and industrial customer sales were off 5% and irrigation loads were down approximately 16% compared to the same time last year. The Lamar Utility Board held a brief meeting this past Tuesday, June 26 before adjourning into executive session to receive legal advice regarding WildEarth Guardian litigation and legal questions pertaining to the Lamar Repowering project. Lamar Light Plant Took $125,260 Equipment Hit from April Tornado
The April 27 tornado in Prowers County caused $125,260.33 in equipment damage for Lamar Light and Power. The figures were presented by interim Light Plant Superintendent Houssin Hourieh during the May 29 meeting of the Lamar Utilities Board. The City of Lamar’s insurance carrier, CIRSA has been given the cost of damages for reimbursement. LUB Assesses Tornado Damages
The April 27 tornado depleted Lamar Light and Power’s inventory with needed replacements for the electrical distribution system. Interim Light Plant Superintendent Houssin Hourieh said power was finally restored to the entire service area after 16 hours. The tornados knocked down or damaged 16 steel poles, 29 wooden poles, 11 pole mount transformers, 40 cross arms, two circuit closers and a two-way radio repeater. ARPA Motion to Dismiss WildEarth Guardian Lawsuit Denied
Representatives of the Arkansas River Power Authority (ARPA) and the Lamar Utilities Board (LUB) expressed disappointment that their motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the WildEarth Guardians (WEG) in early 2011 was denied. LUB Holds Brief Board Meeting
The Lamar Utilities Board is seeking bids to sell leftover scrap metal and railroad railing from the Repowering Project. The metal will be sold at a per ton price and the awarded bidder will be responsible for all transportation and handling of the metal. Lamar Utilities Board Updates Equipment
The Lamar Utility Board approved expenditures for equipment not directly related to energy production. Members approved $23,700 for a replacement copier, capable of making large-scale copies of engineering blueprints. Light Plant Superintendent Houssin Hourieh said some of the original prints are deteriorating with age and the upgraded copier will perform more functions than the one being replaced. LUB Wants Updates from ARPA
The Lamar Utility Board voiced their need for updates on information from ARPA, Arkansas Valley Power Authority and Babcock and Wilson, designers of the boiler used in the Repowering Project. Lamar Utility Board Sets 2012 Fees, Reviews November Sales
The Lamar Utilities Board passed two resolutions at their first meeting of the year, Tuesday, January 10. The first resolution set the interest rate on customer deposits for 2012 as stipulated by the PUC, Public Utilities Commission. The rate, 0.34% is the same as in 2011. Light Plant Layoffs in January, Online Schedule Pushed Back to Summer
In a reluctant unanimous vote, Lamar Utility Board of Directors approved resolution 1201 during their Tuesday meeting, December 13, to ‘Implement a Reduction in Force’. Repowering Project Offline for Additional Testing
Lamar Light Plant Superintendent Rick Rigel informed the Lamar Utilities Board the coal plant may be offline until March of next year. Bent County Fire Takes Toll on Light Plant Power Poles

Lamar Repowering Project Delays Resumption of Online Operation
Coal-fired operations at Lamar Light and Power may be pushed back until June, according to light plant superintendent, Rick Rigel. Two areas need to be addressed, boiler operation and efficiency within the limits of the air quality permit for emissions.
