Municipal Holiday Fireworks Displays Cancelled
Prowers County Sheriff’s Office June 27, 2012 Fire Works Ban Due to the high fire danger Prowers County has been added to the “Red Flag” counties. I have consulted with Fire Chiefs Warn, Cook and Duffy on the fire dangers posed by public fireworks display. Big Timbers History Corner #8 – Lamar, CO, The Land of Milk and Money
I sure wish I knew the story behind this item loaned to the Big Timbers collection by Thomas Nidey. We think perhaps it was a reference to the old condensed milk factory, possibly displayed on their trucks? Still funny after all these years. Prowers County Residents Enjoy a Full Weekend of Events
Wiley was just as hot as Granada. A portion of Main Street was sectioned off Saturday, so booths and vendors could be set up to entertain the crowd. Kids were running and playing at the town center and finding ways to amuse themselves, from an egg-toss contest, to a water balloon-dunking seat. SECCI 2012 Golf Tournament
This past Saturday, June 9, the Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative (SECCI) hosted their annual Golf Tourament at the Spreading Antlers Golf Course in Lamar. Honkers Visit Rich Rigel General Manager of ARPA
The Lamar Chamber of Commerce Honkers welcome Rick Rigel to his new position as General Manager of ARPA, Arkansas River Power Authority. Valley National Bank is Consolidating Main St. Branch
Valley National Bank in Lamar will close its bank at 411 South Main Street on Monday, July 2, 2012. Denise Carder, Marketing and Operations Officer for the bank said this is a consolidation move, only. Lamar FFA Packs The House!!
The Lamar FFA Chapter packed the Lamar Community Building with over 900 spectators for the Lamar FFA Donkey Basketball game on April 5, 2012. 30+ Men’s Basketball has Familiar Champion!
Lamar Parks and Recreation recently concluded its 30 and over men’s basketball season and for the 2nd year in a row. Cruikshank Reality was the last team standing! The league was comprised of seven teams that played a nine game regular season. The season was followed by a single elimination tournament in which Cruikshank Reality defeated Valley National Bank 64-53. Not many people noticed a brief visitor to Lamar Wednesday morning, as he was perched about 100 feet up, checking out his surroundings. Lamar Sales Tax Revenues Post Continued Gain
February Sales and Use Taxes collected in Lamar indicated another gain. City Sales Taxes were up 3.75% for a gain of $8,293.09 over last year at this time. City Sales Tax collected to date is $229,676.04. Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 4.72% for the same period for an improvement of $11,012.85, for February collections at $244,462.09.
