Prowers County Sheriff’s Office June 27, 2012 Fire Works Ban Due to the high fire danger Prowers County has been added to the “Red Flag” counties. Prowers County Residents Enjoy a Full Weekend of Events
Wiley was just as hot as Granada. A portion of Main Street was sectioned off Saturday, so booths and vendors could be set up to entertain the crowd. Granada Playground Taking Shape
The rainy weather from this past Saturday, October 8, postponed the work scheduled for the construction of all the playground equipment at the Granada Park. Mayor Leslie Baca said the work will be done mostly by volunteers and with some help from Summit Recreation, the playground suppliers. As Colorado’s population gravitates to the metro front range, so to does the county population shift to more locally populated areas. Monday’s rains stayed away this past weekend to give a picture-perfect day for events surrounding the 20th Annual Granada/Bristol Days, from the Friday evening BBQ and auctions, to the open air dance this past Saturday. 20th Annual Granada/Bristol Days Underway this Weekend
Area residents are preparing for the 20th Annual Granada/Bristol Days this Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18. The town is sponsoring the Friday evening burger benefit and auction from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the town complex. The proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new fire truck for the community. An area of thunderstorms moving through Prowers County shortly after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 24th, and developed a brief land spout tornado approximately 5 miles east of Lamar, near the intersection of US Highway 50 and County Road 13. The tornado lasted for approximately 5 minutes from 2:10 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The tornado caused no damage, and therefore, is rated EF0. Staffon Warn, Rural Fire Chief, and Jim Faull, Sheriff and Fire Marshall for Prowers County, discussed the recent fires in Bent and Baca Counties and the Prowers County fire ban enacted last month. Granada Town Council Reviews Maintenance Updates
The backhoe used at the Granada dump is leaking hydraulic fluid, according to Bob Cook, town maintenance engineer. He informed the Granada council of the problem during the monthly meeting this past Wednesday, March 9. Town Trustee Jarene de Bono said the problem should be fixed as quickly as possible.
