Burned Apartments Being Rebuilt
The four apartments in the former Gelhausen complex in Lamar, damaged by fire and smoke this past June, are being rebuilt. Apartment complex manager, Anthony LaTour, said the owners, Michael and Stacy Ashley out of Denver, decided to rebuild the units, damaged by fire on June 6 of this year. Littleton Fire Engine Comes to Aid Wiley Fire Department and Southeast Colorado

Lamar’s Friday Fire Wrap Up
One thousand acres of land in a two-mile stretch, running along highway 196 north of Lamar, burned this past Friday night and Saturday morning, caused by an out of control camp fire. Commissioners Discuss Fire Ban
Staffon Warn, Rural Fire Chief, and Jim Faull, Sheriff and Fire Marshall for Prowers County, discussed the recent fires in Bent and Baca Counties and the Prowers County fire ban enacted last month. Air Tankers Make Water Drops on Bent County Fire
13,500 acres of prairie have been burned in the Bent County fire since Saturday afternoon. Highway 50 Closed Near Las Animas due to Rangeland Fire
A wind-driven, fast-moving prairie fire closed highway 50 to traffic at 1:10 pm Saturday afternoon. There is a multi-community response from area fire departments to contain the fire. Fire Ban Enacted in Prowers County
The prolonged drought, coupled with seasonal winds prompted the Prowers County Commissioners to pass a resolution reinstating the ordinance banning open fires in Prowers County.
