Big Trucks & Tight Turns
A Lamar street crew is conducting some guardrail repair work on Commercial Street where it spans the Lamar Canal. Unfortunately the route is used by some trucks too wide and long to negotiate the bridge and the guardrails suffer for the size. Lamar Public Works director Pat Mason said it would be nice to widen the road at that point, but the city budget doesn’t allow for that sized project. Lamar Senior Center Celebrates its 10th Year
Jeff Anderson, former Lamar City Administrator, was on hand for the 10th anniversary celebration for the Lamar Community Resource and Senior Center on East Olive Street, the former Safeway building. The total value of construction for the City of Lamar in 2011 totaled $4,572,431 according to a summary filed by the Code Inspector’s office. One new home, the first for Lamar in several years, is currently under construction. November 2011 Lamar city sales tax revenue collected in December shows only a fraction of a percent gain for the month and a slight decrease for Total taxes collected for the same period. Snow Removal Operations, Slow and Steady

Commissioner’s Approve Opal’s Pub Tavern License and Table Lodging Tax Appointments
Opal’s Pub has been granted a tavern liquor license by the Prowers County Commissioners. The matter was tabled earlier this month during a public hearing, after an application had been filed by Lynn Charlene Kennedy and family members. Lamar City Sales Tax Revenue Posts Another Gain
Lamar City Sales Tax collected for October was up 3.92% over last year, for a gain of $8,988.42. However Use Tax and Other collections were in the negative column, so Total Sales and Use Tax Collections were up only 1.23% for a $3,118.51 gain over the year. Total collections for October 2011 were $255,689.48. Lamar Fire/Water/E 9-1-1 Department Receive Insurance Rating
Lamar was just a fraction away from earning a fire/water safety rating that, overall, could have saved city residents a half-million dollars on their insurance premiums. 2012 City Budget, Cow Palace Inn License Approved
The Lamar City Council approved The Cow Palace Inn’s application for a new Hotel & Restaurant Liquor license. Citizen’s Academy Offered by Lamar Police Department
Beginning this January, the Lamar Police Department will begin classes to give Lamar residents an opportunity to better understand what it takes to become a law enforcement officer. City Water Tank Being Refurbished
Manzanares Construction Services has been at work south of Lamar, refurbishing the city’s large water storage tank. The restoration project had been delayed from last spring as another contractor had been unable to meet the completion dates.
