Lamar City Council to Act on City Administrater/PJ Wilson Replacement
The Lamar City Council will make some decisions regarding future personnel following their 5:30pm executive session this Monday evening, March 12. National Park Service Considering Boggsville in Bent County
COLO. – Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) is pleased to announce that the National Park Service (NPS) is preforming a reconnaissance study of the Boggsville Historic Site in Bent County. City Council Adjusts Water and Wastewater Fees and Rates
Only a few Lamar city water customers will be impacted by the changes in fee and rate charges for 2012, approved by the Lamar City Council during their November 28 meeting. Water and Wastewater manager, Doug Montgomery, explained that the city has never adopted rates for customers using 4″ or 6″ meters. Recycling Organization Receives Prowers County Funding
The Prowers County Commissioners received an operational update from Reva Phillips of Southeast and East Central Recycling, a non-profit group, based in Pritchett and serving this corner of the state, including Burlington, Walsenburg, Manzanola and into Goodland, KS. Prowers County is one of 40 municipalities and entities served by Southeast and East Central Recycling and helps fund the operation with an annual $4,000 donation. Colorado Dept of Agriculture EHV-1 Update – Bent County Horses Monitored
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Department of Agriculture continues to investigate the spread of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) in the state. Status as of 5/19/2011: 8 confirmed cases of horses with EHV-1 Two horses, which tested positive for EHV-1, were euthanized after showing severe neurological signs associated with the disease. 22 suspect cases. Air Tankers Make Water Drops on Bent County Fire
13,500 acres of prairie have been burned in the Bent County fire since Saturday afternoon. According to Chris Sorensen, Public Information Officer for the Bent County Sheriff’s Office, heavy and light airplanes have been making water drops on the fire as of Wednesday morning. “A combination of large tankers and a single engine plane, similar to a crop duster have been at work today,” Sorensen said. The Lamar Theater Marquee Takes Another Hit
A Frozen Food Express delivery truck took a two foot long chunk out of the base of the Lamar Theater marquee Thursday, March 31. Theater owner Rick Ross said he notified the driver that the truck was very close to the curb, and the driver needed to be cautious when he pulled back into the street. Bridge Repairs Planned for S.E. Colorado
Eight of the 63 bridges most in need of repair are in southeast Colorado. A study authorized by Colorado Bridge Enterprise indicated bridges in Bent, Baca, Otero and Prowers County need help.
