DENVER – In an effort to increase seat belt use and save lives on rural Colorado roadways, the Colorado State Patrol and 21 rural law enforcement agencies in 49 counties are mobilizing for a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement period, April 2 – 8. SDS Celebrates Their Annual Awareness Day
Engsburg (standing at right) and Other SDS Staff Southeastern Developmental Services held their open house at the South 4th Street headquarters this past Wednesday, March 28. Prowers County Commissioners Delay Closing CR 9
A decision on closing County Road 9 off Highway 287 in Prowers County will be delayed for 30 days. Greg Emick and Charlie Fowler met with the Prowers County Commissioners, Tuesday, March 27. Emick is purchasing some land which adjoins property he currently owns. Lamar Council Annexes Properties, Appoints Board and Commission Members
The Lamar City Council held a brief session Monday evening, March 26, approving several ordinances on their second reading, relating to annexing several properties into the city. The ordinance annexing the property on Yucca West Drive, known as Langston First Annexation, was amended and approved by the council. Prowers County Commissioners Review Annexation Regulations, Levee Upgrade Plans for County
The Prowers County Commissioners discussed several topics with Mary Root, County Land Use Administrator during their Thursday meeting, March 22. A flood map is being completed for officials in compliance with mandated upgrades to the levee system throughout the country, mandated by FEMA and officials from the National Insurance Commission. Haz-Mat Training Exercise at Fairgrounds
A simulated nerve gas outbreak exercise was conducted at the Prowers Fairgrounds Wednesday evening, March 21. Lamar Police set up temporary roadblocks to the entrances of the fairgrounds shortly before 7pm, while various emergency response teams conducted the training drill. Lamar City Sales Tax Collections are Up
The Sales Tax collections for the City of Lamar are up 3.79% for January and up 4.47% for Total Sales and Use Tax Collections for a gain of $10,588.01 over the same period in 2011. S. E. Colorado Employment Update
Employers in Colorado added 19,500 nonfarm payroll jobs from December to January for a total of 2,284,800 jobs, according to the survey of business establishments. Private sector payroll jobs increased 22,500 and government decreased 3,000. According to the survey of households, the unemployment rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.8 percent. Regional Airports Receive Project Funding

Lamar Sales Tax Collections Show Slight Gain
City of Lamar Sales Tax collected from December 2011 sales shows a gain of 3.35% or $10,668.12 with $329,273.76 collected for 2012 compared to $318,605.64 for the same period in 2011.
