Southeastern Colorado has a newly formed Charitable Organization to support Alzheimer’s patients and their families. The Remember Foundation was established by several interested citizens and area providers to provide a resource for those afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The Remember Foundation Mission Statement is: “To honor and remember those stricken with Alzheimer’s and other dementia’s, to assist and support family members who suffer from the loss of loved ones. To support on every level Alzheimer’s and other dementia patients with screening, early diagnosis, education and information on dietary and drug therapy, resource navigation and research by making those resources available on a local basis to patients and their families.”
The Remember Foundation began meeting in January and establishing a reputable Board of Directors consisting of several area medical providers and interested citizens: John Abbott DO, Margaret Loewen MD, Mary Shy FNP, Renee Weakly NP, Holly Burton, Ellwood Gillis, Fran Stagner, Shawna Smith, Sherry Walls, Tera Bender, Lisa Thomas and Linda Heck. This is a collaborative effort to raise awareness of the prevalence of Alzheimer’s, promote early detection and support the needs of the residents of Southeastern Colorado.
On July 3rd, the Remember Foundation will hold their first fundraising benefit. At 6:00 the festivities will begin at Country Acres Motel and RV Park, located at 29151 Hwy 287 in Lamar, CO. Local talent will be featured in an evening of music, BBQ and auction fun. The two featured bands include Brethren Flow and the John Carey Band. Brethren Flow comes out of Springfield and Syracuse, Kansas and features the talent of local Chiropractor John Anderson with special guest Jay Gruber. The John Carey Band will be traveling from Woodland Park, highlighting the talents of local doctor and resident rock star, Dr. John Abbott.
Brethren Flow will begin the festivities after 6:30 pm. Various items have been donated for both silent and live auctions to take place throughout the evening. Board members are still accepting auction items and cash donations for the Remember Foundation Benefit. Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance by contacting Holly Burton (719-688-4196) or any other of the Board of Directors. All tickets are $20 and you must be age 21 or older to attend and ID will be required.
