Spooks Who Sprint
Members of XiPi Sorority in Lamar decided the best way to take off a few pounds for the holidays, was to sprint ahead of Halloween around Willow Creek Park before all the left-over ‘trick or treat’ candy went to their stomachs of thighs. LeRoy was born on May 11, 1942 in La Sal, Utah to William and Ruth Harrington. He departed this life on October 2, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Denver from a lengthy illness. Numbers Up for Local Fairs
More money was spent at the livestock sale at the Sand and Sage Round Up this year, and twice the number of open entries was noted for the Holly Gateway Fair, according to Lacey Mann, CSU S.E. Area Extension Agent. Mann said this year’s livestock sale posed a 25% increase over last year and came in at $138,785, about $35,000 more than last year, with the same number of participants. Lamar FFA Takes 19 Members to National Convention
Tours, a career show, workshops, concerts, and 45,000 FFA members. Where can all of this be found? The 84th National FFA Convention. The convention is held in Indianapolis, Indiana every year, and FFA members across the 50 states gather together. Economic Rural Representation Diminishing?

Equipment Upgrades Continue at PMC, Additional Recall Forum Proposed
Four equipment upgrades were approved by the Prowers Medical Center Board of Directors, including a new telephone system. Frontier Telephone was the low bidder for a new phone system at a price not to exceed $50,000. Frontier’s bid was $45,173, and the company will provide training on the new system for the medical clinic. Juniper Village Open House Features Bridge to Home
Juniper Village hosted a community open house, Tuesday, October 25, to showcase their Bridge to Home Therapy program. Juniper Village and Genesis Rehab Services developed a portion of the Village into a physical therapy wing, offering out-patient and resident services for various physical therapy needs. DECA Students at LHS Conduct Annual Coat Drive
The Lamar High School DECA club is having their annual coat drive and is collecting coats in good condition for area children. The donated coats will be given to children, who need them, in the elementary schools. The coats are cleaned by Quality Dry Cleaners for free. Coats can be donated at Alco, the Community Building, Wal-Mart, and Safeway. Any donations would be appreciated. PCDI Reviews 2012 Budget, Voices Concerns for Eastern Colorado Economic Representation
Prowers County Development Incorporated, the county economic development organization, will be funded by both the city of Lamar and the county for 2012. Both contribute $50,000 to help maintain operating funds. Lamar Fire/Water/E 9-1-1 Department Receive Insurance Rating
Lamar was just a fraction away from earning a fire/water safety rating that, overall, could have saved city residents a half-million dollars on their insurance premiums. Lamar Utility Board Reviews Financials and Repowering Project Capacity
The Lamar Utility Board held a brief meeting Tuesday, October 25, and postponed the swearing-in of new board member, Ron Cook until the November 15 meeting.
