Area servicemen and women who need medical care not available in the immediate southeast Colorado area can contact Carol Grauberger, the Prowers County Veteran’s Administration representative and arrange a ride to Denver, Colorado Springs or Pueblo for their treatment. The transportation is administered by the Colorado Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs as well as the local VFW post. Lamar Police Make Drug Related Arrest
Press Release: On Friday, June 24, 2011, Lamar detectives and patrol officers arrested Bessie Marie Holloway, 40, of Lamar for a warrant resulting from the investigation of unlawfully distributing a Schedule II controlled substance, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and child abuse. As a result of the arrest Holloway is also facing an additional charge for resisting arrest. City Council Discusses Creation of Marketing District
The concept of a marketing district in Lamar was briefly discussed during the city council’s work session on Monday, June 27. A marketing district would parallel some actions of the Lodging Tax Panel, but would derive its funding from an additional tax on lodging in Lamar only, not the entire county. Everybody Out of the Pool, for the Day
The Lamar municipal pool was closed for the day, Wednesday, June 29, due to a chlorine leak. Unfortunate timing, as Wednesday has been the hottest day of the year, posting a downtown temperature of 108 shortly before 2pm. Signals Set to Control Traffic at Holly Bridge
PROWERS COUNTY – Traffic signals will be activated next week at the bridge reconstruction site on State Highway 89, one mile south of Holly. Lamar Light and Power Replacing Burned Poles
The Lamar Utilities Board meeting on Tuesday, June 28, covered a limited agenda, before moving into executive session for discussions. A dozen power poles were burned during the Ft. Lyon fire this spring, and the board authorized $16,961 to replace the custom-made transmission structures. Commissioners Proposing New Districts for Prowers County
New boundaries are being proposed for the three districts in Prowers County, the first time they’ve been altered in over 40 years. Lamar Redevelopment Board Postpones Hospital District Agreement
The Lamar City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Board on Monday, June 27, tabled approving a resolution for an intergovernmental agreement to pay the Prowers County Hospital District a portion of the TIF revenue generated by the hospital district levy. Southeast Colorado Farmers Eligible for Drought Relief Assistance

Local Fireworks Funding Needed
This year’s 4th of July fireworks display at the Prowers County Fairgrounds will go on as scheduled, but next year’s display may be in doubt. Not because of a lack of rain to keep the area moist, but because of a lack of dollars to pay for the fireworks display.
