Area Students Receive $8,500 in Scholarships from Elks Lodge
The Lamar Elks Lodge, #1319 and the National Elks Foundation, awarded $8,500 in scholarships to southeast Colorado students during an awards dinner, Monday, May 2, as National Youth Week is being observed. Twenty-one elementary school youngsters participated in the Americanism essay contest, submitting a short theme of what being an American meant to them. Preliminary Court Dates Set in Hagar Assault
The three men arrested in the alleged assault against Brian Hagar of Lamar, appeared in Prowers County District Court for appearance of counsel on Tuesday morning, May 3. Shane Kalani and Abraham Kalani of Wiley and Daniel Knight of Lamar, all had their court appearances before District Court Judge Tallman continued for pre-trial conferences with their attorneys. Cinco de Mayo this Saturday
The weatherman is finally cooperating, forecasting better weather than in years past for Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, sponsored by Voces Unidas and the Lamar Chamber of Commerce.
