Friday Fire Jumps Arkansas River, Heads to Lamar
Firefighters in Lamar and Prowers county were called out in force late Friday afternoon and into the evening on April 22, to combat a wind-driven blaze north and east of the city. Lamar Fire Chief Marshall Cook said the fire spread across the Arkansas River and was moving westward, blown by winds that fortunately, weren’t as strong as two weeks ago during the Ft. Lyon fire. LINCOLN FIFTH GRADERS PLANT TREES FOR ARBOR WEEK IN LAMAR
Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 was a busy day for the Lincoln Fifth Graders! They celebrated Arbor Week by helping the Lamar Tree Board and City Crew plant 110 trees at the Ball Fields and the Paulin Grove Nursery area, close to their school. LCC Planning to Increase Student Enrollment
A men’s soccer team and junior varsity basketball team will be part of the new line-up at Lamar Community College next fall. LCC President John Marrin and Chad De Bono, VP of Enrollment Services, outlined the goals of the college’s three-year strategic marketing plan recently. Sand & Sage Demolition Derby Set for April 30
The Sand and Sage Round-Up has moved the traditional August derby to April 30 at 7pm. In an effort to attract more cars the Sand and Sage Round-Up has teamed up with Outlaw Promotions. There’s also been a classifications change to this year’s derby. A limited weld derby will be held instead of past year’s no-weld derby. Grasshoppers Getting Growth Cycle in June
Spraying for grasshoppers in a three county area this spring will take funding. Prowers County Commissioners are searching their budget for funds, and Mike Pollart, Southeast District Manager for the State Land Board is assessing the costs involved for Prowers, Bent and Kiowa counties.
