Traffic Stalled on Main (Again)
Last month a northbound oversized scoop/shovel got hung up on Main Street, just past Olive as the load was over-wide. Police had to ask those persons parked along Main Street to move their cars to make room for the vehicle. LCC Booster Club Banquet this Wednesday
The Lamar Community College Runnin’ Lopes Booster Club will host its third annual Athletic Banquet on Wednesday, April 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the LCC Wellness Center. March Employment Figures for S.E. Colorado
Employers in Colorado added 500 non-farm payroll jobs from February to March for a total of 2,228,200 jobs, according to the survey of establishments. Government increased by 1,100 payroll jobs and the private sector declined by 600. The national unemployment rate dropped from 8.9 to 8.8 percent over the same period. The unemployment rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point to 9.2% based on household survey results. The labor force increased 8,700 to 2,686,400 and total employment increased 10,100. RE-2 School Board Closes Lincoln, Ponders 4 Day School Week
The Lamar RE-2 District school board, faced with an $860,000 budget shortfall for next year, took several steps during Monday night’s meeting to close the financial gap. One step was to close Lincoln school for next year. Director Elizabeth Whitham cast the lone no vote to close the school which was estimated to account for 30 to 40% of the desired savings. Obituary – Jerry Keith Bullard
Jerry Keith Bullard September 21, 1932 – April 12, 2011 Mr. Bullard was a distributor for Tom’s Toasted Peanuts and Potato Chips for three years and opened Lamar’s first automatic dry cleaning units. He worked at Ft. Lyon VA Medical Center as a Psych. Nursing Assistant and retired from Civil Service at the Post Office in Lamar, Colorado.
