Jared Smartt Receives SECPA Scholarship
LA JUNTA – Southeast Colorado Power Association is pleased to announce that seven youth from the region have been named winners of college scholarships offered by SECPA, Basin Electric and Tri-State Generation and Transmission. Rodeo Season Underway at LCC
The Lamar Community College Rodeo team began its spring season at Gillette College on March 18-20. Sophomore Tyler Schnaufer won first in Team Roping and moved into first place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings. Fire Ban Enacted in Prowers County
The prolonged drought, coupled with seasonal winds prompted the Prowers County Commissioners to pass a resolution reinstating the ordinance banning open fires in Prowers County. Sheriff Jim Faull and Kyle Neill, Fire Chief of Holly Fire Protection District discussed the ordinance prohibiting open fires in the county. Final Planning Develops for 2011 Relay for Life in Lamar
The monetary goal for this year’s Relay for Life is $68,000 with 45 teams. Achieving that level will help qualify the Lamar organization for Pacesetter recognition for the 2011 season. Pacesetter standards show Relay committees what they should be striving to attain, and aid the Great West Division recognize events that show exemplary progress and commitment throughout the Relay planning process. Prowers Medical Center Signs Physicians
Credentials for eight medical practitioners were approved by the Prowers Medical Center board of directors during their monthly meeting, Wednesday, March 23. The board, with one dissenting vote, approved a new, one year contract for Chief of Staff, Dr. Barry Portner which rescinds his current contract. The new contract will expire March 31, 2012.
