The Lamar Community College Men’s Basketball team closed out the regular season Sunday night with a 97-57 win over Adams State JV in Alamosa, CO. The Lopes finished the regular season with a six game winning streak and an overall record of 23-7. The Lopes started out quickly hitting nine of their first 10 shots. Lamar Fire Crew Cleans Up Following Fire Call The Lamar Fire Department made quick work of a kitchen fire Monday afternoon in the trailer park off South 14th Street. A fire developed in the wall behind a gas stove, brought about by a crack in the pipe. The Prowers County Fair Board met in regular session at the Eagles Lodge Thursday, February 24 to elect new officers. Elected were: Mark Carrigan – Chairperson; Diane Pool – Vice Chairperson; Cindy Bennett – Treasurer and Toni McPherson – Secretary. Discussion focused on developing a concert act on par with the Josh Abbott band that entertained crowds for last year’s fair. January 2011 Prowers County Sheriff’s Report

Patrol Activities: The sheriff’s office responded to 335 calls for service in January with 145 from Lamar, 45 from Holly and 21 from Wiley. There were 117 calls from the county. Of the Lamar calls, 50 were jail related and 20 involved warrant arrests. The department issued 27 traffic citations and summonses and 84 warning tickets were issued, plus seven criminal summonses.
