The Lamar Theater Marquee Takes Another Hit
A Frozen Food Express delivery truck took a two foot long chunk out of the base of the Lamar Theater marquee Thursday, March 31. Theater owner Rick Ross said he notified the driver that the truck was very close to the curb, and the driver needed to be cautious when he pulled back into the street. Lamar Planning to Bid to Host State High School Rodeo Finals
Pat Palmer, Cade Spitz and Tim Tunink approached the Prowers County Commissioners March 29 with options involved in having Lamar and Prowers County host the 2012 and 2013 Colorado State High School Rodeo Finals. Lamar Repowering Project Delays Resumption of Online Operation
Coal-fired operations at Lamar Light and Power may be pushed back until June, according to light plant superintendent, Rick Rigel. Two areas need to be addressed, boiler operation and efficiency within the limits of the air quality permit for emissions. Rigel said the furnace’s air supply systems need improvement to provide sufficient ‘overfire air’ for the operation, which will involve additional ducting and ports for air venting. Lamar City Council Revises Water & Sewer Fee Schedule
The 2011 fee schedule adopted by the city in 2010 inadvertently combined both water and sewer fees instead of separating them according to customer usage. Some water customers who don’t use city sewer facilities were being charged sewer fees. The Lamar Fire Department was kept busy with responses over the weekend, and fortunately there were no fires or injuries. The first call came shortly after midnight, Saturday, March 26 to a Lamar Community College dorm for a heat sensor alert in a basement. February 2011 Unemployment Figures for Colorado
The state Labor and Employment Board released the most recent numbers for employment in Colorado. As of February, Colorado had 2,670,939 eligible workers with 259,400 unemployed. That number rose for last month to 263,646 for January and was lower last February at this time with 253,381 for February, 2010.
